This weekend the City of Lincoln will be invaded by Steampunks! Don’t worry, they are entirely harmless, they just love dressing up in Victorian style – anything from top hats and flying goggles, to corsets and flamboyant feathers.
The Festival celebrates the steam powered world of the late 19th century and attracts visitors from all over the world. It’s the biggest Steampunk festival in Europe, scheduled for the Summer Bank Holiday (28th – 31st August). “Lincoln will host a full convention-style day programme with a fringe style programme of art, literature, music, fashion, comedy and simple good fun.” More info here.
If you fancy the Festival, do visit their website beforehand, particularly the scheduled programme, as there is a lot going on, and there are various types of events over the weekend:
- Public: Open to all
- Castle: Members of the public who have purchased entry to Lincoln Castle and Asylum Wristband holders
- Asylum Wristband: Asylum Wristband holders only
- Asylum Wristband or Pay on the Door: Asylum wristband holders or member of the public paying a small fee.
- Ticketed: Only those with tickets for the event can attend. (You may be able to buy tickets here – but be aware that most events are sold out)
When I tried to buy tickets in advance, I found a message on the festival’s Eventbrite page stating that online ticket sales have been suspended, and I was advised to visit the Festival Event Control page, which I found here. Never mind, the good news is that weekend and day wristbands are available for direct sale from Event Control / Event Information, which you will find “….in the area around the Roman Well at the junction of Westgate and Bailgate (opposite Greggs)”
