Yesterday evening Woodhall Spa’s Cottage Museum won the excellence award at the 2014 Lincolnshire Heritage Awards event, held in Gainsborough Old Hall. The annual event celebrates the best of our county’s heritage projects.
The award was presented by David Sleight, Dean of Public Engagement at the University of Lincoln. He spoke in praise of the museum and told me how impressed he had been with Jackie Goodall and her team, mentioning their resilience and perseverance in triumphing over adversity since the museum’s near destruction by an arson attack in 2011.
The stunning Great Hall, in one of the best preserved timber framed manor houses in the UK, was an inspired choice of setting, and even the table layout was reminiscent of the banquets it once would have housed. The distant sound of lute music, excited contestants and a new format gave us an evening to remember.
The museum is only a short walk from The Petwood Hotel, and it’s open daily 10.30am to 4.30pm from Easter to end of October. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
